THE FARM - FLOOD AND STORM RELIEF BENEFIT FOR MISSOURI FARMERS
573-821-6240
28706 South State Hwy 7
Garden City, MO

Heavy spring rains have dropped 25-30 inches of rain throughout southeast Missouri in April and May of this year, causing almost every drainage ditch, creek and river to burst from their banks causing some of the worst flooding in nearly a century.

As a result, a bumper crop of winter wheat are now underwater. Corn, soybeans, rice and cotton likely will not be planted this year-maybe never again-as silt, sand and debris from the river covers the fields.

Storm and Flood Aid Fact Sheet

What damage has occurred as a result of unnatural disaster in South East Missouri?

Catastrophic loss of hundreds of thousands of acres of Missouri farmland costing Missouri farmers anywhere from $150 million to $400 million according to Missouri Farm Bureau President Blake Hurst.

Missouri’s Economy (and the U.S. Economy) depends on agriculture. This area of southeast Missouri is known for its wheat and soybean production and half of the county’s acreage has been flooded into a contaminated wasteland filled with over 100 homes as well and farm buildings, equipment, wildlife and cemeteries.

Not only are Missouri farmers suffering, there is a ripple effect in a time of extreme world shortages.

In Mississippi County, where the corps blew open the Birds Point levee to relieve flooding pressure on nearby Cairo, Illinois, local officials estimated the water may have caused $75 million in damage to roads, bridges and public infrastructure.

Family farms built over generations were sacrificed to save a community that has been declining since 1950. Cairo, Illinois had 12,000 people in 1950 and has an ever shrinking population of 2800 today.

The flooding is projected to reduce sales revenues of $93 million in Mississippi County alone- a decline of about 14 percent, said Bruce Domazlicky, director of the Center for Economic and Business Research at South East Missouri State University.

Storm Aid to Joplin, Missouri

The tornado in Joplin, Missouri causing even more widespread devastation putting Missouri in national headlines for an extremely tragic beginning of Spring, about 150 people have died and thousands are left homeless. Insured losses are already over 3 billion including 180,000 vehicles, more than 8,000 homes and 500 commercial properties.

SHOW ME MUSIC FEST JOINS UNITED WAY TO RAISE FUNDS FOR
JOPLIN, MO TORNADO RELIEF

Springfield, MO – The Show Me Music and Arts Festival announces a joint endeavor with the United Way of the Ozarks to raise support for long term recovery for the community of Joplin, MO. On May 22nd, the most devastating tornado in US history struck the town of Joplin leaving 134 people dead and causing millions of dollars in damages. Joplin is considered a sister city of Springfield and many families reside within both communities. Throughout the three day music festival, Show Me Music Fest and United Way will be coordinating four primary activities to raise funds for the relief efforts. There will be a silent auction, a live auction, items for sale such as t-shirts and beach towels, and volunteers at all entrances taking donations and encouraging everyone to “Buck UP for Joplin”. All funds raised from these auctions will be sent to The United Way of Southwest Missouri and St. John’s Mercy Hospital, which provides 80% of the charity care (uninsured patients) in this region, and took a direct hit from the tornado.

The Show Me Music and Arts Festival is set to take place June 17-19 and features some of today’s most popular musical acts, celebrity chefs, and nationally touring comedians. In addition to Candy Coburn's show on June 18, some of the talent appearing includes country superstars Tim McGraw, Trace Adkins, Big & Rich, Little Big Town and Kellie Pickler, as well as top pop acts Train and One Republic! Also joining the musical line-up is the YouTube sensation and popular trio, The Cleverlyswho will open the festival fresh from the Stage Coach Festival in Los Angeles, California where they received rave reviews. The Chef’s Pavilion Stage will feature three top Food Network chefs - Robert Irvine (‘Dinner: Impossible’), Ellie Krieger (‘Healthy Appetite’), and Aaron McCargo (‘Big Daddy’s House’), and the Comedy Tent Stage will feature six nationally touring comedians, ready to provide some comic relief for festival attendees!

Additional attractions at the festival include the Show-Me Saloon Stage, a Kid Zone which includes thrill rides, games, and entertainment, the Show-Me Arts and Crafts area featuring over 30 exhibitors, and many food and drink vendors featuring festival fare from all over the world. SMMF truly has something for everyone!

For a full weekend of amazing music, attractions, and entertainment, weekend passes are available at the great price of only $139! Multiple camping options are available starting at the low price of $70, and for those looking for a VIP experience, VIP packages are also available and include VIP parking, VIP seating with air conditioning, a private bar area, snacks, games, and VIP restrooms.
